Open office writer uneven word spacing3/14/2024 One of the combinations I did for this restarted the numbers in the desired paragraph, but it didn't take the numbers off the entire document. Even when I try to keep going to F11 to create new styles and toggle styles. When I do that, it makes the entire document line numbered. So I went up to Tool>Line numbering> and checked the box that says "show numbering" However, that didn't make it do anything. Then I re-highlight the desired text and go back into the box and re-click the "include this paragraph in line numbering" (If you look at the link I gave in my last post, these are the instructions as far as I can tell) I go over to Format> Style and formatting (F11) and click on the little plus sign in the top right hand corner of the box that opens up to create a new style. I will highlight the text that I want to put line numbers next to and then go up to Format>Paragraph>Outline and numbering> and then "unclick" the "include this paragraph in line numbering" I will try my best to describe what I am doing. Since the material is copyrighted material and not my material, I do not feel comfortable uploading a full document to the internet. I did upload a sample posting document on my last post, but it seems the line numbers didn't even stick to that document. Line numbers test 2.odt This document is numbering the way I want to (17.09 KiB) Downloaded 144 times However, when I try to do it on the real document I want line numbers on, it will not work. I have no idea what I'm doing differently and why this isn't working for me anymore.ĮDIT: BTW I am trying this out now, I made a test document and I get get it to put the line numbers on the outside. (I am trying to get the lines to number by intervals of 5). It will not stop numbering the entire document, and it will number desired passage in a weird way putting 5's on every line. I am now leaning towards using this method with certain passages, however, now when I go to edit my documents I cannot get the line numbering to only go onto the passage I desire, it is being finicky. _numbering I was able to get line numbers outside the margins but ONLY for the passages I wanted. In the original link I posted in my first post on this thread, (and I am reposting the link here). I don't know why I am getting different outcomes on different ODT documents. Still having issues with this feature but the issues seem to be new. When you say "apply the line numbering" do you mean use the line numbering system as set forth above? Can you please clarify? Thank you. I might use this, I was able to find the frame part in "insert" right above the table option. Could you leave a detailed trail of how I get that to work, if that is the route I end up going?ĮDIT- JK, this looks pretty good. Your solution is interesting, I did look into inserting a separate table, but I couldn't figure how to make it work. Jk- They have to be close to the text because, if you have ever taken an SAT test, you have to answer line specific questions sometimes, and if the numbers are far away from the text it makes it hard to read. If it is a problem perhaps something like a frame within a section for each passage might work? I don't know what happens if you have text both inside and outside the frame. I don't understand why they must be within the margins but one half-assed solution would be to insert a frame, ajdust it to the right, put the text in the frame and apply line numbering. I don't want to change the margins of the page, I just want to make those line numbers fall next to the text as opposed to outside the entire page margin. I don't know what box you are referring to about spacing because I'm not using a box currently with this method to get this result. You know the border that exists around where you can type? I don't know where to go to make those number fall inside the margins, closer to the text. This gives me line numbers for the text I want, but they are falling on the outside of the whole page margin. I go back up into "Format"-> "Paragraph"-> "Outline and numbering"-> re-click "Include this paragraph in the line numbering" Then making sure that new body text type is selected, I high-light the desired text. Then I go to "Format"-> "Style and Numbering (F11)"-> This brings up a box that I have to create a new Body text type The process, as described in the link is somewhat strange for me, but I am having to go into "Format"->"Paragraph"->" Outline& Numbering"-> Unclick the box that says "Include this paragraph in line numbering" Which box? Are you referring to somewhere specific in the instructional link I posted above? Thank you for clarifying, I'm still not sure if I understand what you are suggesting I do.
